Rob Mariano's new hosting status...

Hey all you past Tontine auditioners.....I was working out at my local gym today and while on the treadmill I turned to "Spike" TV....Mariano is hosting a show called "The Split' with some other chick.....it's boring to say the least and he doesn't look too confident as a host....seems like the contestants can walk all over him....even more so than Ryan Seacrest......lol.....he doesn't look too confident and the chick that hosts with him is just gay......it's like, "Tell them what they have won Rob." And he's like, "No, you tell them what they have won." And she's like, "Awww.....you tell them what they have won..." a gay show......it's based on poker and what's worse is that it's on the comcast SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL.....If poker is now a sport then so is "Moment of Truth"......what a world, what a world!!!!!!!

Nor is the show entertaining. Rob COULD be a good host, but just needs practice....as for the girl, there is no hope.

This was all I could find about it (and it's obviously not correct info since the commercial was on NBC, and it's past June).

This event will be telecasted as a reality show by either the channel ABC or ESPN and will be hosted by Boston Rob and Michele Merkin named as "The Split" which is supposed to be start in June 2008.
It goes on about how they went from 1000+ to 28 for a prize of up to two million, but it doesn't really explain anything else.

Anyone know any details or even heard of it? I guess this is what Rob decided to do when Tontine flopped.
This Split show wasn't even picked up by ABC or ESPN. It is televised on local sports channels like Altitude that are only on Cable or Satellite TV. Out of curiosity, I watched the first 2 episodes of this show (which was more than enough). Although 2 episodes are really one episode in 2 parts.

In the first episode (first part), a bunch of people compete against one another in a blackjack tournament at the Winstar casino in Oklahoma until there are 6 contestants left that compete in the final round. The winner of the final round wins one million dollars. Mariano is no where to be found as Michelle Merkin is the host for the first part. Each of the final 6 contestants are eligible to compete for two million dollars in a second tournament in August. However, one of those 6 people will be eliminated in the second part.

The second episode (part) is more complicated. The 6 contestants are flown to Dallas where they stay in a high class hotel with all expenses paid. From what I recall, they go off with Mariano to some competition where they can win some extra cash. A fancy automobile is also offered as a prize which is to be won by one of the contestants. The contestants must vote for another contestant other than themselves to win the auto and the contestant with the most votes wins the auto. The contestants are given some time together where they can talk strategy about how they will vote. If there is a tie, Mariano picks the winner at random. After the votes have been cast and read and the auto winner has been determined, the contestants are taken back to Winstar casino and Michele where they draw cards. The contestant who draws the low card picks another contestant and they face off in a round of blackjack with the loser being eliminated from playing in the second tournament. If the auto winner loses, then the winner takes over possession of the auto. Before the holder of the low card is revealed, Mariano offers the car winner to choose between keeping the vehicle or taking $20,000.00 and turning the car over to one of the other 5 contestants of their choosing and also being guaranteed to compete in the 2nd tournament for 2 million (the low card holder cannot pick him/her). I would think that the car winner would always opt for the $20,000 and be eligible for the 2nd tournament.

I would guess that the 3/4, 5/6 episodes etc. would repeat what happened in the first 2 episodes until they get about 20 contestants that compete in the 2nd tournament.

It would be interesting to check out sometime, but unfortunately it is a very difficult show to find. I didn't even see it on Spike TV or anything. What exactly is the point of these shows on channels that VERY FEW people actually have access to? It definitely makes it virtually impossible for the show to be considered a "top-tier reality show".

If Rob really did look bored... I wonder if any of it stems from his involvement (and most likely disappointment) over "the show formerly known as Tontine"....
