Liberalism Needs "Professional Help"
Talk about a liberal snob. I would never issue this man a death threat… but I understand.

Less than a week after a controversial appearance on the ABC reality television show "Wife Swap," San Francisco resident Stephen Fowler was forced to resign from the boards of two nonprofits, allegedly received e-mailed death threats and stood on the sidelines as his wife, Renee Stephens, issued a public statement condemning his behavior and asking him to get "professional help."

"Professional help." At last, an admission that liberalism is a mental illness! And to think these are the kinds of people today running our government.

To be fair, the whole notion of "reality television" is BS. Supposedly people are walking around and going about their lives, behind the scenes. Viewers buy that concept because they don't see the cameraperson, audio person, cable runners, and other production personnel lurking about. In reality, there is nothing natural about this.

So whether Stephen Fowler was "hamming it up" or not is now a matter of spin, but being he clearly went out of his way (and had fun) being an asshole, and only liberals get off on demeaning and humiliating those they consider inferior.

Again, death threats against Mr. Fowler are totally appropriate… but I understand.

Gawd! These people (the SF couple) are caricatures, of cartoons, of … fill in the blank….

Self absorbed, narcissistic. Their life is defined by causes. They will weep deeply when their life crashes around them.

if anything, I blame Mark Burnett for this "reality TV" crap mostly, for opening the pandoras box of Television. I've seen 1 or 2 'reality shows' that were decent..rest of em are garbage. I'll stick with watching the History channel for now though, and syndicated re-runs of my favorite 90s shows, and the occasional rental DVD, as far as TV goes these days…

Leary is a very dry, very funny guy.

I can't abide any of this. I can't stand 'reality' television — it isn't the least bit real; I can't abide this kind of liberal sleeze; I can't abide internet stalking and posting people's personal info online.

If it were up to me, I'd take everyone involved in this story and drop them off in a ghost town somewhere where they can all feed on each other. Good God Almighty.

Yeah, we Midwesterners SURE are stupid, like that Thomas Edison guy or that Henry Ford dude. What the hell'd they ever do?

I had to stop when I heard the wife going on about the things she is "Certified" in. They were all about attempting mind control on other people. From hypnosis to "Neuro-linguistic Programming" (I didn't know you could be a certified master in that bs….)

As for Reality TV, blame the Hollywood Unions, who struck long enough for these kinds of shows to gain a following.

The only "reality show" I watch is the Pistons. Thank you, Bob, for confirming that I'm miss NOTHING.

I guess I'm not the only one who was surprised by an urge to kill a complete stranger. I think it's a cultural thing. Name-calling may be acceptable in English society, but most Americans think it's a terrible character flaw. It's even worse for a parent to set that example in front of his children.

404, you said it. Added to that, our industrialists and inventors had manners. My mother worked in a resort where the Fords vacationed in the '50s. She said once that they were unfailingly polite, and the little boy (I believe Edsel Ford's youngest son) was expected to say "please" and "thank you" to the staff. They had common courtesy, which I suppose isn't too common anymore.

I love this story and it has got legs, too

I won't be the first to suggest that there is a modicum of truth behind every stereotype. But this guy is the absolute poster boy for the left-leaning, I-am-smarter-than-you, insensitive, elitist snob.

Yes. He's so smart he allowed himself to to be manipulated by TV producers to become 'confrontational' without once stopping to think how it was going to play out across America. Brilliant!

I don't wish him dead at all. This story is what, 3 weeks old, and it's still gaining steam?! Payback is a b1tch. Let him him squirm in his own stew for a good long while. And the libs are just falling all over themselves because of this guy's bad behavior. Does it get any better?

Everybody Hates Stephen Fowler

It looks like everyone's upset with the way the Wife Swap show went for San Francisco venture capitalist and his wife Renee Stephens and his temporary TV wife Gayla Long. The reviews are in. Fowler is "the most boorish and abusive of husbands ever to host a swapped wife," says Reality Roll Call. "Phenonemally cruel," says Gawker. "Stephen Fowler is everything wrong with the elitist eurotrash transplants in this country," (Fowler is British) says Fixn' To. Anybody else have something to say? "Pompous treehugger ass," says ecorazzi. Alright then. "Supreme douchebag," says Peter Staack's Ramblings. (Video from the show that had been everywhere is being pulled down like the Berlin Wall but seems to be still online here at GlossLip). Gayla is an average, nice Midwestern American, and Videogum reports Fowler spent much of the show verbally abusing his assigned "redneck" "wife." He called her fat and stupid and said 'I make more money in a week than you do in a year,' and was "basically the biggest douchebag ever to appear on reality TV" so "now Americans have joined together to collectively hate him."

As Rabbi Philospher itemizes: "In the course of the TV show he offended military personnel, mid-westerners, people with weight problems, people without college diplomas and the vast majority of Americans in general." There's been a Missouri-sized backlash from Midwesterners. In the words of a commenter at Gold Plated Witch on Wheels: "There is this superiority complex which liberals in general seem to have in regards to the 'midwestern simple redneck' (to use assbite Fowler's terms). This particular man only verbalized it on national TV " British blog Militant Ginger backlashes the backlash: "Just like Fowler had labelled Gayla a 'redneck' and attacked her for traits like her weight or her patriotism, many of the people reacting to Fowler attacked him for his nationality."

Then came a Stephen Fowler Sucks blog. A blogger posted Fowler's home address online and he had to threaten to sue the site. His real wife Renee apologized on her own blog, Inside Out Weight Loss. And he added his own mea cupla at the same site. And he resigned from the boards of two environmental nonprofits, Gawker reports. Of course the whole premise of Wife Swap is to exploit our wonderful differences -- the differenter the better. And the whole goal for the ABC network is to get people talking about the show. So maybe not everyone's upset about how it went.
